Guatemala, October 2007 – Healthy Value Chains: Case studies, Methods and Leadership.

The companies in the Food Lab are implementing sustainability in their supply chains. During the week of October 15, the Food Lab will lead four Learning Journeys in Guatemala followed by two days of large group meetings. The primary focus of this meeting will be on sustainable value chains including case studies, mini-workshops on approaches to assess and improve value chains.

SAI Platform and SFL Business Coalition Shake Hands

The executive teams from Sustainable Agriculture Initiative Platform (SAI Platform) and the Sustainable Food Lab Business Coalition met on June 29th in Atlanta at the Coke headquarters. While keeping the core operations separate they agreed on specific ways to cooperate to further shared goals.

A European NGO released a report detailing initiatives from throughout the European Union, the United States, Canada and Japan, aimed at serving more sustainable food in hospitals and schools.

The Council of the Responsible Fishing Alliance met to discuss membership, structure and day-to-day operations in Paris, June 14. Council members agreed on principles of membership, reviewed applications of new organizations and discussed their relationship with MSC.

Hospitals and health care professionals know that good food promotes wellness. Many are concerned about the public health risks of the pesticides and antibiotics used in conventional food production. Some are determined to reduce the carbon footprint of their institutions. A growing number are taking action.

Amsterdam Helps Bring Sustainable Food to the City Level

February 2007 at the Sustainable Food Lab sponsored meeting in London the Deputy Mayor of city of Amsterdam offered to host a meeting focused on sustainable food strategies for large metropolitan areas. That invitation spurred interest in establishing an International Association/Alliance of Large Metropolitan Areas.
